The iO West theater in Hollywood has completely overhauled its improv programming. Beginning January 8th, three premier teams will perform the theater’s flagship form, The Harold: King Ten, Heyday, and the team I am privileged to play on, Wheelhouse.
This is a major change for the theater, which for years had 9 house teams, give or take. Following the dissolution of all but one (King Ten), Artistic Director James Grace designed the smaller, sleeker Wednesday night lineup.
Tuesday nights have been reprogrammed as well. 14 teams will alternate weekly on the main stage, leaving the Del Close Theater for good. New classes and independent shows will fill the space, presumably.

Tonight, I will perform with The Cartel for the first time! The shows are part of iO West’s Harold Night lineup on Tuesday nights, 9:30 PM.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with some veteran improvisors. I will be joining Ernie Macias, Laura Davis, Drew Coolidge, Chris Gorbos, Tommy Bechtold, Erik Voss,Lauri Roggenkamp , Muretta Moss, & Justin Uretz. Coach Andy St. Clair has the unenviable task of keeping us all on our best behavior.
This will be my 5th team at iO West, having previously worked with Natural 20, Ripley, Fairfax Prep (a.k.a. Kitty Porn), and Moxie.
Starting next Tuesday, I will be performing with a new Harold team at iO West. We are called “Natural 20,” a reference to the iconic Dungeons & Dragons roll. Once again, I will be coached by Annie Hoff of USS Rock ‘n’ Roll.

On Saturday, I played my third one-man musical in the United States of Improv tournament. Team North Dakota (Tom Christensen) took on Team New York (Tommy Bechtold, Karen Graci, Colin Hughes, Chris Fontakis, Brandon Sornberger, Rich Fancher, & Steve Major). Team NoDak won the audience vote!
Not to be outdone by Maestro, my iO West team Ripley decided to put in some volunteer hours today.
We had the chance to help out at the ReStore in Norwalk, CA. I had never been in a ReStore before, but they are fantastic. It’s a normal thrift store but in addition to housewares, they sell pieces of house! You can get windows in frame, sliding glass doors, ducting, landscaping materials, etc. As a handyman, I am glad I found out about this place…and wondering how I didn’t know about it sooner?
Tommy Bechtold, Will Koehl, Joe Spence, and I did most of the heavy lifting. Amanda DePover rounded out the team and provided much needed cheerleading and management.
